Understanding The "Puppy Uglies"
Pomeranian puppies go through what some call
the "Puppy Uglies". They start out
as this cuddly little teddy bear and as they
grow, at about 4 months old they start to
have different body parts grow at different
rates and the puppy hair stops
growing and
no hair is
replacing it. Then the adult hair starts to
come in, in sprigs and they look like
an awkward teen with a bad hair
day. By the time they are 6 or 7 months
old they have gone through this
transformation and like a butterfly first coming out of the cocoon
they are the beautiful Pom you have always wanted.
The coat
will fill in more until they are
a year old, when most are full coated. Some males
fill out even more by 2 years old and most females will get more
coat after being spayed.
These are all pictures of my Dance Parti Diva as she was growing up, she still has a few more months before she is fully coated but she has become a beautiful joy in our lives.
